Farber you are a relatively newcomer at CCKWs and WWII Vehicles, wait til you have 60 years around them and your perspective will surely change. If you hold out for those "boatloads of parts", you may miss your chance to enjoy your MV before you are too old to drive it. The CCKW has been around for 65 years and there is no longer any department store one stop shopping, the popular parts are long used up and what is left is scattered. Some of us have been around these parts for a long time, many museums and many of the old time dealers rely on each other to find scarce parts, and I am proud to be included in that group. There is a new breed of dealer and they are the ones who advertise in the periodicals, but there are a few with ties to the original dealers and we look out for each other, that is how I found 19 NOS Diecast CCKW Carbs, and some of the nice trinkets I hoard. We call each other when parts are discovered. There is not a week that goes by that we are not on a search for old parts. We have payed our dues and help each other out. Join the MVPA and belong to a chapter, it pays off, as it expands your contacts.
PS
Boatloads of M-2 Tripods? A very interesting subject.

Where are the Banjo Seals, and manifolds? Are the seals Original, or a "will fit." CR and National have discontinued the correct seals.

These are new seals that I have used. They are not inexpensive though.
I am working on a new type of seal that will be much better than any new or NOS seal you can find for many of the chevy/cckw applications.
I hope to have them available by the spring. Doing this is a useful winter project.

Rare parts?
Joel, if you don't want to soil your CCKW with used parts it's your right. I myself prefer to help save as many CCKWs as I can. If that means I use take off parts, so be it. Save the NOS stuff for the day when the used parts dry up.
I don't sale parts for the $$$, I sale cheap or giveaway parts to save the CCKW. I traded a complete open cab with even the seats for a M1 rifle, Nick got a inner windshield frame with glass for free (Merry Christmas Nick
). The good headlight buckets are a $5 item around here. Whole fenders with headlight, upper & lower side panels I sold for $35-45. Carburetors, got boxes of 'em. Exhaust manifolds are easy to find here, I've never seen one set to the Winter setting.
Here is my list of hard to find parts on the West Coast:
Wooden Steering Wheels
Cargo Body (They're around but not common)
Windshields Open/Closed Cab
Hoods without cracks
Open Cab Doors
LWB Spare Tire Brackets
SWB Spare Tire Brackets
WW2 Troop Rack Hardware
Gas Tanks
Gas Tank Brackets
Battery Covers
Wire Mesh for back window

I have LWB Tanks, Russ Jones has LWB Tanks and Sam Werner has LWB tanks, also have brackets for same, but items are NOS. Also can supply the pick up tubes with the tanks I sell. Got Battery Box covers coming but are new. Jaap R. has Screen for rear windoiw on eBay, but is NOS, price is right tho. Too bad you didn't get to Downtown Truck parts in L.A. before I did. Bob Martinez was my friend.

There are advantages to using NOS parts, it allows one to enjoy "turn key" operation, with minimal downtime if PM is practiced. It also will help to get top dollar when it comes time to part with the CCKW along with enough NOS spares to keep the truck going in "issue condition" for years. After all the work that has been invested in my CCKW, I am going to ensure that it goes to a new owner with parts back up to keep it rolling. It does get expensive though.

If everyone went in to a buying and hoarding frenzy every time some thought that part X is no longer available then we would all have basements full of parts that, well, everyone would have.
Just about everything WWII I have collected (weapons, vehicles, radios, manuals) has had a 'last one's ever'.. only to have more appear. Fact is the more 'rare' the parts are, the harder people look for them.
Yes, some parts ARE gone... NOS or even take off parts are rare for some parts... but they are out there... someone has them. Someone probibly has them repo'd if the market would bear it.
I am amazed that t-84 cases are being repo'd. Thats gotta be an EXPENSIVE deal having trans cases poured.... but its being done.
Will CCKWs ever have an 'MD Juan' manufacturer? Not with the attitude of Mr. Gopan.. your glass appears to be perpetually half full. I on the other hand think the exact opposite. When CCKWs get thier time to shine it will be like a second golden age of big rigs.
Just because I am not crainking out parts does not mean that work is not getting done. Full time job, family, renovations, friends, holidays etc will ALWAYS take priority of vehicle work.... thats just the way it is. If I was retired with time to kill that would be a whole nother story!

All of this has to do with supply and demand As parts become harder to find and more collectors enter the market the prices go up. I used to buy M-1 Garands for $100.00 dollars apiece, and not that long ago, try to buy one for that price now. Just basic free enterprise economics .

Gotta be careful on used ones, many were reinforced with angle iron by the Gov'ts that used them, and they look a bit different. Most appear to be done the same, which leads me to believe that there was a MWO at some point in history. My last estimate to fabricate 10 of them including 100% of the brackets and special Clamping stud thru the chassis, using inside wheel nuts was $750.00 each in 2001. Mark up would have to be 25% in order to let them set on shelves, or 15% if the customer made a deposit. Cost would be 30% more today. There is a lot of detail involved to ensure the customer would have a 100% complete ready touse assembly. Shipping would be additional.

Hi Guys
Just found this subject, a bit late...
But I may be able to help with 1 or 2 used Spare LWB tire
carriers. They are not 100% complete, I believe they where missing
some of the smaller parts that where mounted to the chassis.
Shipping a complete spare tire bracket to the US would cost
economy 52,25 and proirity 89.00 euro
Interested?? please email or pm
Best wishes,
Corné
