GMC CCW

Hello folks.
My first posting here.

I am the editor of the magazine "Mud & Snow" and are at the time looking for photos of the CCW, the 4 x 6 GMC. Anyone who can help out? If any photos used in the magazine, you will receeve a free copy.

Going to be hard to find, many were used on the Alcan highway, and at military posts world wide. The CCWs actually stayed active longer than CCKWs in the US Army as many if the Garbage Packer Version served into the 60s on Army Posts. They were painted white.

Hi Rolf,

There's at least one restored in The Netherlands,I'll get the details of who owns it for you. I have access to an original Maintenance Manual for the CCW if that helps.

Many of the photos I have seen are in Books about the Flying Tigers or 14th Air Force. Perhaps the authors would have photos. I am sure Bryce Sunderlin has factory photos from back when he did research on his excellent articles in Army Motors. There were not enough of them in service to make any headlines. I think it was something like 14,000 trucks. I have the TM10-1423 CCW Maintenance Manual in my library, and the photo depicted is of a LWB CCKW.

Maybe....I am misunderstanding this.....

I thought a CCW had a non-driving front axle.....

Sure looks to me like the picture above has a "meatball" on the front axle.

Matt it would be greate if you could find out a bit more of the CCW in The Netherlands! And a Maintenance Manual is also of interest. Am very interessted in the front axel. Any chanse of scanning something there?

Joel do you know how to get in contact with Bryce? Same on the Manual you have in your bookshelf...

And "Weasel Nut" I did just put in the photo of the CCKW-352-B1, well aweare it is 6x6, to see if the forum did axept photos since I did not see any while browsing (very quickly thoe) the forum which is new to me.

Welcome Rolf,

Any contributions you want to make would be greatly appreciated.

I wanted to mainly bring this to your attention as I was not aware what expertise you had with CCKW's and did not want to see you publish an incorrect picture. Other uninformed journalists have a tendency to throw any picture up on an article.

There was a factory CCW photo floating around on ebay some time back. You might want to check that.

Someone here on the list does have an unrestored CCW.

Allways appreciate corrections when needed, and for sure, it is very easy to fall for the misstake publishing the wrong photo because it looks "so nice". And for sure, there is many vehicles that can be hard to id correctly.
I have some peoples arround I use freequently when I stumble upon things I am not sure of, and get many opinions before anything gets published. But the day will come when I will fall into the pit....
US vehicles is natuarly the easiest to id, because they are the most common in MV meetings today (but then it is these rare ones showing up from time to time). Some german vehicles are a bit harder, and espessialy when it comes to vehicles not german, but is used by the whermacht. But as I mentioned, I use the net and have good friends around the globe that I use to help me.
And that is one of the reasons I have ended up here in this forum, I am sure I will be here every time I am wondering on something regarding GM vehicles, then I will be naging on you guys :D

BTW: I like photos on forums, so here is another one. This time a CCKW-353-A2 with radioshack (althoe postwar) compleete wiith all radioequipment and the Ben-Hur trailer fitted with the generator.
And please tell me if you want me to not post photos. But as mentioned, they do not take any space on the forum server...
