What's This ?

Post by snow man »

Can you see it on the passenger side .right under the edge of the dash it's a small Metal Box with a handle that you pull out " like opening a dresser drawer ". This is not my truck but i have this metal box under the seat of my Closed Cab, is this" the small parts box " :?: Image

It is indeed the spare parts box, however as far as I know they were never factory fitted to closed cabs. Interesting to note that the fitting of the box has required the fire extinguisher bracket to be re-located to the centre of the firewall, and the bracket is of the late/postwar pattern.

My guess is the fitting of a spare parts box to a closed cab CCKW is a post war modification.

I just noticed a couple more things, the FE bracket could in fact be a bracket for the M2 Gas Decontaminator, and the transfer case leavers don't look original.

It makes sense to have the spare parts box under the seat. I wonder where the spares kit was stored on closed cabs from the factory? there's no mention of the spares kit in the TM 10's.

Matt
there is a parts kit that is discribed in TM9-805 for the chevy 4x4 , but I don't see a listing for equipment for the GMC closed Cab. Its always good to have as many of the TM"S as possiable they have answered alot of my :?:

Hi Snowman
Don't you have a TM :?: If you don't everyone needs to have one, there is alot of information in them and do I need to say it :) pictures too :!:
Tm9-801 on page 21 under tools parts and accessories, not only does it show a picture its list what tools should be in it. If one has the truck they need the TM to go with it they go hand in hand
