CCKW early dash instrument question

CCKW early dash instrument question
Have been offered a early dash cluster, but unsure of the following on this cluster:
Oil pressure gauge range is from 0 to 30psi, manual for my CCKWX states oil pressure whilst driving should be around 33 to 40psi.
Engine temp gauge appears to be carpillary tube, manual indicates a electrical sender and gauge.
Should it have GMC marked on dash?
Any help would be appreciated, I am trying to convert my CCKWX back to this early system, at present it has the later 5 seperate gauges.

On my August 1941 cckw352 truck, oil pressure ranges from 40 to 80 psi. The temperature gauge is operated with an electrical sender + wire but doesn’t work. Does anyone of you guys know how to test if rather the sender or the gauge is out of order? Also, do you know of a parts source for for those early temp gauges/sender ?
I found another spare dash cluster that came for sure from another early GMC truck ; on this one the temperature unit is the capillary type. Unfortunately the tube has been cut just a few inches from the gauge
This would mean that both systems were probably used on early trucks!?!?! Any information on that
Is the fuel level sender the same as on the standard round military gauge?

I think if you ground the wire or open the wire it should read max and min though I am not sure which way is which. Just touch it to ground though, don't hold it there.

A manual I have for the CCKWX shows in the electrical diagram, the circuit for the temp. gauge & sender, is it possible the Chevy dash was the capillary type, and used in the GMC if the electrical unit failed ??

I´m converting my truck to the electrical system and it only has the mechanical type, with port in rear of cyl head.

Hi Ducatti,
I don’t have the truck here so I can’t say now where the sending unit is located, but as many as I can remember it is on the same location as the capillary unit, on the rear end of the engine.
I found a NOS capillary Unit here in France. It works great so I think I’ll put it on the truck. Have you already bought a sending unit and does it work on your truck? If so, what is the part number of that unit?

Electrical sending unit originally went on the thermostat housing on CCKWs up to Chassis Number 41189.

I found a sender in the USA ( egauge.com). Just received it and did not tested yet, but it has the right specs for the gauge

It can be installed at the fitting on the Cylinder head that is normally used for the mechanical guage. I do have a CCKWHX thermostat housing stored away.

Recently purchased a complete early dash cluster, the seller told me this was removed from a CCW which he had cut up
, he said nobody wanted the 6 x 4, they wanted 6 x 6 trucks, any way the temp. gauge is the capillary tube type, was this original or changed at some later, possible post war.
I also bought a wiring harness, NOS in box, its the engine/dash harness, when I checked through, found this to be a harness for early GMC, only 2 panel lamp bulb holders, also has cable for engine temp. sensor, this was bought for my Shop Van, but will fit my CCKWX better
