The "Bridge" plate

I have a question about the yellow Bridge Plates.

I have seen two types displayed on WWII vehicles. The completely flat kind and the kind with the "lip" on the edge of the plate (these kind of look like a gallon paint can lid turned upside down).

Which is the proper plate for a WWII CCKW and why?

I believe either is correct at the raised edge one represented a 'field' added/made one

Ron Ratoff has very nice ones (a complete flat one kit )that I use in the subdued yellow or bright yellow if you must
