POST WAR PARTS STOCKED FOR CCKW 1960s and LATER

Post by joel gopan »

The stamped tie down hooks indicate that the body may be a Post war replacement, as most steel bodys had the forged hooks. IS there a Data Plate screwed onto the lower left front edge? The 1951 ORD 8 I have does not show an Ordnance Part Number such as yours which may be too late for the manual, but could be printed in a change to the manual. It is obviously a late type Ordnance part number that is not in the pre 1951 manuals.
Some of the parts manuals were printed in Europe in the 50s by the French Army (In English) with later part numbers than printed in US Editions. I used to get these reprints from Sarafans years ago. The late style NSNs as used in the late 50s (TARES System) were applied to WWII Parts that were kept in inventory up to recent years. They should be able to be found in Europe. I have late production CCKW Carburetors dated 1989 with the current style Part numbers, but no manuals were issued in the US at this late date. This leads me to believe there are late parts lists for those trucks that stayed in service overseas. I will pay good money for any that are available from overseas.

Yes, there is a data plate in the lower left front. It has been painted over for better or worse and I have taken it off yet to clean it up.I'll take it off and clean it when I get to that pert of the bed.

Soak it in Parts Cleaner or Brake Fluid.

A data plate can provide a lot of information otherwise lost without it. I have soaked them in brake fluid to remove old paint. It does a good job also.
