Tailgate Peep Holes

That's what a guy said thay were :shock: What i saw were holes in the tailgate that when it was lowerd the taillights showed.Thay had a cover that blocket the hole with tailgate up. Was this a ww2 cckw tailgate or some M series unit :?:

Are they round or oval holes? I know Canadian CMP cargo bodies have holes in the tailgate for the lights.can you post a picture?

The Danish Army modified the taillights on many of their CCKWs to hang below the angled panel of the Steel Cargo Body. They then modified the Tailgate by cutting a 6 1/2" hole in each ot the outer panels of the Tailgate. This allowed the tail lights to be visable with the tailgate lowered.

On the truck i saw the taillights were in the orginal location. That put the hole almost center tailgate. The covers had one bolt that thay piveted on like the peep hole at a speekeasy.Thats another story!

Guess a picture is in line as it is nothing that is found in WWII GMC Manuals

It must be a post war modifacation or a speacial use truck. If i see it agin i will take a photo . Seemed a lot of work just to show the taillights!
