TM 10-manuals.
I have most of the TM 10's for the CCKW and I have found somthing which has got me stumped. TM 10-1501 covers CCKW chassis# from 13189 to 41188,yet the following manual TM 10-1147 covers #'s 41224 to 64464.that leaves a gap of 35 trucks, does anyone have any thoughts on what these might have been? as the manuals only cover those trucks built for the US army could these 35 have been built for another service? I doubt all 35 were engineering prototypes.
Matt.

There are gaps in the available records for chassis numbers throughout CCKW production. Many trucks were pulled for other armed services, these could have been Dump Trucks or other special purpose trucks for which an Army TM was not assigned. This is not the only gap in the numbers.

Thanks Joel, you are right about gaps, TM 10-1105 for the CCKWX covers chassis #'s 001 to 13187,yet the next manual TM 10-1501 goes from #13189.so what happened to 13188? in fact it was the engineering prototype for the SWB dump trucks and had the hood number W-428589. it has been featured in at least one magazine article.
I wonder if it survives in some yard somwhere? I doubt it.

Joel,Just a thought but I doubt the 35 "missing" trucks were dumps as they are too early to be either the small number of 352 dumps or the 353-H trucks.
I wonder what they were?

All one can do is speculate, as GMC supplied many Cab and Chassis early SWB and LWB to be converted into whatever, or for feasibility studies. remember, CCKW tractors existed also. Some Civilian Gov't agencies were allocated GI trucks, the A-Bomb Projects had GI trucks operated by non GIs. Maybe the AVG got them.

In the excel-list you got, you can find the serialnimber 41189. It is the first unit of contract W-398-QM-10250 an is a A2 ie. no winch and with GM axels.

Hi Rolf,
Found it thanks!. in TM 10-1147 the first truck listed under W-398-QM-10250 is CCKW-353-41224-A2 so I wonder why those 35 trucks don't appear in the manuals? contract prototypes? in fact one does appear in TM 10-1147 on the page showing the location of the various component serial numbers the chassis number of the truck is CCKW-353-41220-B1 and IF the same truck was used for all the photos on that page the cab number was 1574-47136.
Do you have any more info of those trucks?
Matt.

Well we got two of the missing 35, but it does not make any sence hence they seems to be "ordinary" GS-trucks...
My first tought would have beene they were delivered to some coach-builder to make them into F1 Van bodied trucks....
Wich I had some more manuals... I only have ORD9 SNL G508

Hi Rolf,
I have all the TM 10's so I'll copy the pages with contract info and send them to you, email me your address in case I can't find it(it's here somwhere!).
At least a couple of those trucks survive then. more research is needed!
