1941 CCKW

Post by 41CCKW »

This is my 1941 CCKW. It is pre pearl Harbor. It is a 352 but someone has cut the frame and aded 2 feet to it and put a flat bed on it. The truck had been sitting since 1975 and we got it running in 2 days :D

What is this thing on the Master cyl cap? It has the "outboard" master cyl.

Very nice, looking forward to seeing that one restored. I'd like the "A" frame from off the front for my 352. Another quality Truck running,Good luck with the restoration.

That is one great truck. It must feel nice to know you have a pre Pearl Harbor vehicle. That gizmo on top of the master cylinder is certainly strange to me. I feel sure 0someone on this tie can add some suggestion though. Good luck oin the restoration.

Nice truck, I'll have to get a better look out at Eagle. Is this the one that is going to be used as a stage?

Looking at the background, Eagle Field is looking good this year. I can't wait until Saturday.

Yep this is the stage truck, it is green now. I painted it with rattle cans. All it needs now are stars on the doors. The field is looking great but I just wish we had been able to sell more tickets. The date of delivery is 6-30-41!!! Serial #38153 B1

Look what a difference a little paint made. It took about 12 rattle cans of cammo paint but it came out nice. Now I have to finish the rewire, get the clutch working, and replace the freeze plug in the back of the head.

That valve on the master cylinder looks like a air line quick couple ,i know it's not standard probably someone used it to blow the line's out [ bubba] field mod.

I have asked Joe about working on that US6 but he wants me to get my dodge truck and tractor out of there first. I would like to start work on it some time this year.

Snow man: The only manual that I have read for CCKW's is TM 10-1563 Published Jan-15-1943 It does not show the early style "outboard" master cyl. I thought it was some sort of pressure bleeding fitting but I have no idea.

Is that the red Dodge in the back of the hangar? Which tractor are you talking about?

Nice looking truck! It's amazing what a little paint will do,I have found that home depot can match paint very well,I had them make me a gallon so I could paint the underside of my halftrack bed while I had it off,I found a inspection panel under the dash that hadn't seen light for sixty years,I carefully washed it and took it to home depot and they made me a gallon of outdoor water based paint for $12,then I used my airless paint gun to paint the bed,the frame on the halftrack was covered all it's life and so the paint was very close to orignal, when I set the bed on you couldn't tell the difference in the paint. Someday I would like to do a proper restoration but for quick jobs like you did on the GMC it works great, and cleans up with water, and is alot cheaper then rattle cans and not so hard on the thumb. On the master cylinder cap,I have a bleeder system that uses the same type of thing for attaching to different master cylinders,if it has a couple different thread sizes I would bet that is what it is,or it might just be a bubba version,I bet the brakes leak and after sitting for a while they didn't have a pedal, you could hook up an air hose(it should be pressurized brake fluid) and open each bleeder till all the air was out,I've done this many time when buying a vhicle that has been sitting and there is no pedal. Have you been able to get the cap off? I have a 40 CCKWX that has the same master cylinder location and have been trying to get the cap off so I could try to bleed the brakes,it's just my yard truck so it doesn't go far or fast so the E brake works for now. My serial number is 4779,so far it's the oldest still running one I've heard about. Unfortunatly is isn't nearly as nice as yours, mine was used at a sawmill for many years, then he used it to help set props for the movies when they used to film all the westerns in our area. It's good to see another old warrior being saved.

@rwdfresno : Yes the red dodge in the back of the hanger is the one. The tractor is the little yellow one (it is in pieces) in the back by all of the old army trucks. Joe gave me both of them a couple of years ago but I don't yet have the room to take them home.

@bobc : I only had a little time to paint it before a air show so we used the rattle cans. There will be a restoration in this trucks future so it will get a proper paint job. No luck on geting the master cyl cap off. I tried once but the paint job was the main priority. I will pribably try to take the master cyl off and put it in a vice and then try to take the cap off.
