continental 22r engine

Does anybody have a source for engine parts domestically. I am trying to check availablity of such things as a clutch, and engine internals as I am considering buying a 1944 Ward Lafrnace M1A1. Already checked with MilSpec, Sam Winer, Sam Werner. Kevin Kronlund is out of town until the new year. Any leads would be appreciated.

You must know the owner of the Ward Lafrance wrecker that was at the Aberdeen show last year. I believe it was a local towing company.

Other than Kevin Kronlund the only other people I can think of would be someone from the Red Ball group in Pa.

I do not personely know the owner, have spoken to him a couple of times at Aberdeen, his truck is "Ms. Nebraska" named after the truck his father drove in the war. The owner lives in Lithicum Md. ,but again I have no name. The truck I am looking at is in Va. It was supposedly restored 5 years ago by Frank Buck in Pa. It is in running condition, but before I commit to the purchase I would like to see what spare partrs are out there.
since the 22r is not as popular as the Hercules engine in the Diamond T trucks.

Thanks for the picture, The truck I am looking at is painted late war OD (darker) and it is missing the rear stabalizers that attach to the rear underside of the bed and also the screw jacks that attach to the front stabalizers. Now if I could just get some leads for engine parts.......

I am just adding to my collection. I got to drive the Ward LAfrance I am looking at, man what a beast of a truck. I am also looking at a Diamond T wrecker. I would prefer the Ward Lafrance however, in my research it seems that parts (engine/ driveline) for a Diamond T are more plentiful.

Dia T drive lines were used in other vehicles as well that helps .

What about the 10 ton wasn't that power plant used in any high speed tractors ?

Didn't you say the truck was restored 5 years ago by Frank Buck ?
It seems doubtful that it should be "worn out " already.
Are you going to get a tanker to haul the extra fuel

Yes;
I was told frank Buck restored it 5 years ago. From what I was told, Bob Rubino worked for him. If Bob had restored it, it would be perfect, but I do not know Frank Buck. Anyways, The truck drives Ok however from sitting, the carb will need to be cleaned out and a minor tune up is in order. It starts easily and all systems checked out ok exceptI could not get the front winch engaged which is a cause of concern.
Alos from what I have found out, the 22r was only used in this truck. I like to stockpile spare parts or get a few good sources for parts.
I have amassed a good amount of spare parts for my Chevy, so when my son (currently 8 years old) gets my truck down the road he should be able to give it to his son.

Oh forgot to comment about the fuel.....................2mpg with a tailwind and twin tanks that hold 85 gallons, no wonder you see pictures of these trucks with jerry cans mounted everywhere.

The M1A1 is a faster truck than the Diamond-T as far as data plate speeds are concerned.

Isn't the later Continental 6602 of the same design for some parts? If so, the 6602 was used in gas 5 ton M-series trucks.

Sounds like you should talk to Bob and ask about the truck.
Do you care to share the asking price ?
Kevin has one for sale as well you know.
A vehicle that heavy is expensive to haul and Va.is closer than Wis.
