I liberated this big wood crate at work. 8 feet by 4 feet by 3 feet. Looks like a WWII shipping crate....if you use your imagination and have a couple of beers ....
I want to use this in our LHD and thought that stencilling it up to be a Barrage Balloon crate would be appropriate. Does anyone have pictures of a BB crate so that I can see what the stencilling would look like.
Man, you guys sure come up with some ideas! I thought when I got the Oil Barrel marking for Dr Duece that was something.
Right now I'm fresh out of ballon TM manuals, but I did find this crate marking instruction in a 1944 ammunition inspection TM. Thought it may give you some idea's. I can e mail an enlarged scan for more detail if you want.
Obviously you made them an offer they couldn't refuse
I'm gonna tell M Baker he is not alone anymore
Might be a little tough properly displaying it in the "living history display" at Weare this year
I suppose you could always put it in the crate
See Ya

there was a guy on e=pay selling the dvd / training film for the balloon,
but i dont remember if it showed a crate.
it does need a goofy looking winch unit to lower it up and down.
The Imperial War Museum Duxford here in the UK has recently displayed a beautifully restored Fordson Sussex balloon tractor. It features a large canvas sack housing the balloon, on its rear.
The sack is sign written, with I believe Balloon MkV11 type 1. I could be wrong but the guys at Duxford may be able to help:
