Color Bar Codes on Bumpers

There was also a counter espionage identification used on some vehicles which landed during Operation Overlord. They used Color Bar coding on the front bumpers to indicate units....But that is another whole story in itself.

I sure would like to know more about these bar code type markings. I read a story in Army Motors that said they were a representation of army unit numbers used for shipping vehicles on a sea voyage. Probably because it would be easier to put the vehicles of a certain unit together on the same boat that way. But you see different versions of the bars, with and without a letter next to it.

Does anyone know more about these color bar markings?

There was detailed article in a past edition of Army Motors. It was very detailed and specific. I believe there were 10 different colors which indicated a code.

I will look through my 100 or so magazines and see it I can find it.

If someone else knows the issue...Help me out here.
