The truck was either US Army (most likely) , ex-French Army (contract), or British Army though doubtful as it would have been delivered.

"I did check the CF-351 book, it uses the same wheels as ACKW trucks, and learned something new that is probly useless to many."
Not to me. I find this stuff interesting. Like detective work pouring over manuals during the winter next to the wood stove....
Like the cab thing. I only found out about that 2 years ago at a truck show. Someone with a PU showed that to me.

Reading the GMC Master Parts book, the stoopid sheets moved the xfercase! All the driveshafts are different except for the little one to the rear rear axle!

They didn't move the Transfer Case, the CCKWs moved the Wheelbase, axle spread is the same, along with Torque Rods.

Not quite, I love the detective work, I just don't have the materials to do it very thoroughly. Right now, my detective work is based off the internetdr deuce wrote: Probably only Joel and I are the only ones who love this detective (geek) work....

When my dad restored his 1948 Chevy pickup (it's a 1/2 ton Thriftmaster that we still have) he tracked part numbers through all of the changes and was able to buy brand new parts from GM in the 1980's. We still have all those books, so if I ever restore one of those trucks myself (which is very unlikely, I like big slow green machines), I will be able to track down parts easier.
So, what books and manuals do you guys use for your research? I'll keep my eyes open for them.

50+ year accumulation of rare army manuals, 60 years of contacts, rarely a day out of sight of army trucks since the end of WWII, and US Army training that agreed with me.
PS it makes you foolish after a while. It took me 10 years away from Army service to wear out my every day Corcoran Jump Boots, I had several pair left over. Everyone could hear me coming into buildings.

I figured it out. The driveshafts are different because the xfer is centered like the CCKW, but because it has a shorter WB, 162 versus the 164 of the CCKW, the shafts are shorter.

NOTE, the hood side panels are missing the louvres.
Page 12 AM #48 shows a glossy beauty of the ACKWX mit louvres and the same tires as the NOS 700X20 US Royal Mastergrip that I want to sell.
What a beautiful finish the Glossy GMCs had compared to the CCKW. They must have had to take off their boots to ride in it. The one in AM has a Glad Hand on the rear.

No one bid on the old girl before the auction ended. Lets see ifn I get an email from the seller....
It appears that this one with the 4 sp may have the straight thru xfer as opposed to the under drive xfer like a 5 sp CCKW. I am still looking at the GMC Master Parts Manual for 1940-1942.
