RAL color code on our trucks
What is the real RAL color code on our trucks? RAL6014 is NATO olive drab. But its this the same color at the war times?
Kind Regards from Norway!

Hi Dagfinn, "correct" paint codes has been the subject of discussion on many boards, there has been much talk and advice but little hard information I'm affraid.
The problem with RAL codes is that military colours were not standarised in the US until after WW2. Unlike the Germans who adopted the RAL system early on and recorded everything, the US colour system appears not to have been so specific. The pressures of demand perhaps.
References regarding this can be found in several sources, and the following would a good place to start :
http://www.colorserver.net/history/hist ... 5-josa.htm
http://www.aikidoparaguay.org/kubel/whpainte.html
www.ral.de
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olive_Drab
At the risk of starting WW3 I'll stick my neck WAY OUT and say there simply ISNT a correct colour for US Olive Drab, in the ww2 period.
I hope this of use to you.
Let the battle commence.
