Update farmer mods removed

Post by nwmv »

Hey guys me and Sweet Pea spent the whole day together as me and 3 of my sons removed the bulk of her farm duds :D I must say she looks much better without them. We steam cleaned the bed and the stake pockets. They were all full of a grain and dirt mixture. Fortunatly being keep dry in a barn help to keep them from rusting out. Found only one of the pockets that needs repair 8)

Shes a beauty , who would have thought you could still find such an touched or barely touched CCKW !!!! With a new set of matching NDT's a bit of O.D. paint and some canvas she'll be looking proper . Of couse I m glossing over checking all the systems out but all of it will come with time and money . Do you have inside storeage for it ? of will you be putting up on of those tent garages ? either way she ll be protected .

Hi ABN, yeah she a beauty! :D Before she goes on any road shows she is going to get the full treatment! All fluids/grease will be changed, brakes and electrical gone over, new tires. Then she will get a shake down cruise. I am planning to keep her as original as found meaning clean up the cab and repaint was is necessary and leave the intact original areas alone. Kind of a sensitive restoration I am not quite sure how that will work, but we'll see :) Right now she is at our shop about 20 miles away. This summer i suspect I will keep her a little closer to home :)

Sound's like you have a good plan and a lot of help with your sons and just ask the guys here on CCKW if you need any advice or questions answered
The CCKW may not be fast about 45 or so max and its' not very good on milage mine gets 5 to 5.5 per gal. Yours doesnt have all the exta weight mine has so you may get closer to 6-8 You just cant beat it for the pride and historic presence as you drive it .

HI Brian,

Sweet Pea is looking GREAT! That cleaning of the composite bed made it look brand new. Have you guys tried wet sanding the hood? I bet you will find the original hood numbers! Man, your CCKW is definitely like a time capsule. GREAT find, Hammerhead

Hood

Post by nwmv »

Hi Hammerhead I was going to wet sand the hood the other day and did not have any paper  yea I am hoping they are there that would be cool. I was lucky and found them on my slattie :D Out of ten or twelve jeeps I have had this was the only one that still had numbers on the hood, bubba had taken care of the rest :(

Cleaning Sweet Pea

Post by Cat Man »

Did you find any goodies in the tool box, glove box or under the seats or behind the seat backs?

You never know what is down there when you are cleaning. We've found some interesting items before.

Send More photos.

Cheers

Hey Catman I found the engine hand crank, the Budd wrench and the breaker bar for the wrench and a registration paper from 1962 along with some misc. farm stuff like gears and square linked chain most likely repair parts for the auger setup. Oh I almost forgot the Knight's Cross with Golden Oak Leaves, Swords, and Diamonds :)
