I may be corrected on this but i think the differental housing is the same from 1940 ish. threw late 1960 s. If that is the case cover gaskets should be a easy find . the cooler king

Gaskets

Post by Cat Man »

As a kid I learned that's why the old timers call a simple ball peen hammer a "Gasket Makers Hammer". The round end is for gently tapping around the edge of a casting to "roll your own" gasket from sheet gasket material.

Another bit of gasket making trivia from my travels in the marine engine business. If you are ever on an older ship take a close look at the work bench top in the engine space. The "thousand little smiles" you find stamped into the bench, are a testimony to years and years of gasket making by hand. The cutouts for bolt holes in new gaskets, made by the round gasket punches leave a distinctice semi circle or "Smile" to greet the newest oncoming engineer. If those smiles could talk. :D

Cheers
