I believe it is around 570 lbs

NOTE: Remove the carb and distributor BEFORE removing or installing the engine. They are very easily damaged!

Bearings, clutch and balance. But first, a lifting frame.

Great post guys, very helpful.
Will a cherry picker handle the height clearance and weight needed to pull the 270, or do you need an a-frame?
A friend has a cherry picker he would let me use if it would work.

Great tip about the carb and distributor Doc.

".............. a cherry picker he would let me use if it would work."

Well Sundevil, In my experience, cherry pickers like modern Jimmy drivers, come in assorted sizes.

Its best to find the one suited to the job. There will be a manufacturers plate on the cherry picker and it will give you the safe working load. Once you know that, and you tell us the outreach of the lifting arm to get over the engine, the rest is just math.

In brief, a cherry picker designed to pick just one cherry, will not do. However a Big Double Knuckle 30 mtr outreach with stabalisers will probably give you some margin of safety.

Don't go taking any chances.

Take the whole nose off including the fenders which you can do in one piece.

Trust me, you will thank me in the morning! :)

If you take the nose off, you do not have to get the motor too high. One problem you do run into with an engine lift is it hits the bumper and that prevents it from going far enough in.
