I am planning on trying to find the Museum's F-3 Airfield Service Truck's hood / registration number tomorrow. Before I start sanding/stripping/scraping, I thought I would post to the list for some insight.
In what range of registration numbers would the Airfield Service Trucks fall?
From my research, I have found a couple of other Airfield Service Truck registration numbers.
Hazel, the closed cab in the picture below, is 804445
342-FH-3A17550-52447AC -1 by Military Veterans Museum & Education Center, on Flickr
The next photo shows another hard cab with a registration number of 804494
342-FH-3A30693-57566AC -1 by Military Veterans Museum & Education Center, on Flickr
This hard cab has what looks like 804609
Is is safe to assume all airfield service trucks are a 6 digit number starting with 80?
For reference, the Museum's F-3 info is below:
Serial number CCKW353-41976-A1
Date of delivery 192141 (that's what's stamped on the tag)
Cab style 1608
Cab serial number 2296

Thanks!

Re: Need help with a registration number
I found some more pictures of Airfield Service Truck registration numbers.
First is a better image of the one above confirming 804609

Next we have 804545

Open cab 4238833 in the next two images

Open cab 42XXXXX

Open cab with number too hard to read, but look at the trailer it's hauling. You mostly see them with the 600 gallon trailers, not the big ones.

Re: Need help with a registration number
All sanded down and no numbers were visible. There was only one coat of paint under the top coat and it was an ugly bright green.
I'm thinking of using the trucks serial number to help make a registration number. Thinking about going with 804197. That is pretty close to what the other closed cab refuelers have been that I have seen pictures of.
Any reason I shouldn't?
