How to Tell a WWII GMC 270
Can someone tell me the differences between wartime and post-WWII 270 engines?

Re: How to Tell a WWII GMC 270
OK, from what I have observed:
The later 270's (50's) have no foot on the front for a motor mount. Not sure when they started this
The intake manifold has larger diameter runners and a larger base on the carb.
Not sure about the 270's in the 50's, but the 302's in the 50's all have a fatal intake manifold flaw that I have observed in about 6 different engines where the heat box under the carb cracks or actually looses casting and that lets exhaust leak out. I have a couple that have had the box removed and steel welded over the opening to prevent exhaust from leaking.
The pistond and head cannot be interchanged with th eolder engines; turbo top in WW2 and flat later
How is that for starters?
