I can see I am in for it, and I am not making fun of the trucks with mixed parts, I am explaining why they exist.

This begs the question. Is Degesy's truck worth any less than the original GMC body? Would that make make it any less desirable? Just wondering because there are a lot of trucks in the U.S. that don't have the original cargo bodies on them. In my estimation it does not.If a person is proud of what they have and anytime someone is willing to invest time and money into saving one of these old beauties, they deserve to be congratulated.

AD you are missing the point, all I was trying to do was give the readers a little background on the CCKW that most would normally realize. These trucks served for 50 years and some new parts had to be contracted out to keep them serviceable. There were differences. I should not have mentioned anything as this sort of backs up the old addage "that a little bit of knowledge can be dangerous." It took me years to absorb all of this and there is no real good way to cover it all. Some trucks over here are different as they were used by owners who discarded anything that was not needed to adapt the truck for dozens of uses. There is no way to put in print all the methods and techniques of the proud do it your self owner that wants to resurrect a symbol of the past. I know you have developed a technique to stay within your resources, we all have our own individual level and goals.

Wow, I love them. Especially the BMW plates. Fantastic. I have always liked data plates, both on and off of old vehicles and aircraft. I have a small collection of Japanese data plates that were removed from aircraft during the war by U.S. servicemen and one from a Japanese truck. These are great. Thanks for showing them.

Arnee,
my truck also went through Karlsfeld Ordnance Depot. My truck went through in 1952. I'll upload the photo of the dataplate later when I get home. I'm at school right now.
