Rebuildt Truck

Post by Minnie »

I own a rebuildt CCKW353 B1, open, cargo produced jan '45. (CCKW353B 460716B1)
A plate on the dash confirm a that was rebuildt by a US ord. firm in Charlottevile, PA (?) in 1952, Dont rembeber the details on the plate- Truck is winter stored, a long way from the computer...
I have som questions:
1.Is it likely to belive that this truck never left the states ? or did some trucks that saw action overseas also made it back ?
2.Is it possibe to find out were this truck was delivered after it left the plant ?
3. Is it possible to find out correct id nr on the hood based on chassis# ?

My truck came from the states winter of 52/53

Regards from Norway

That is and extremely difficult task to trace the service of the vehicle. Good luck in your quest.

Hello

Thank's Armydriver. I had my thoughts about the possibillity to find out
Service and Id nr.
But do you have any theory about reconditioned trucks that has been rebuildt in the States V.S. Europe ? I have had the impression that trucks seldom was brought back tothe states after V.D.E. wrong ?

Sturla,

The story behind my 353 Air-portable truck is, as I have been told, was that it was built in 6/1945 and immediately put into storage.

It was then removed from storage and rebuilt by a US rebuilding depot in 1952 after which time it was sent to Norway as part of the MDAP program.

It was surplused by the Norwegian Military to a European interest and then bought by someone in the US and shipped back here.

I believe I am the 3rd non-military owner.

Thank's. I forgot to mention:
When i restored the truck i found traces of the letters ORDN 2(?) on the left side of tailgate. Postwar US marking ???

The history of my truck: Registrated in Norwegian Army 29. may 1953.
And commisioned to a mountain arty batallion. A reserve unit.
The truck was sold from The Army in 1994 and in that time it has been only used on randomly exercises probably only every 4. year It had only 8000 m on the meter. Im the third civilian owner. Bought it in summer of 01. with 10400 m on the meter.
To day the meter read 20350...
The truck is tight, runs smoothly,no vibration, Like a dream..
It is wiht great satisfaction 'Minnie' and I take the Narrow local roads. either it is summer with windshield down, or in -15 degree Cels. with snowchains on white snow covered roads.....
I Call this high quality sparetime spending

Great Story Sturla,

Please send on a picture for the site of your CCKW plodding through the snow with its chains on. I think everyone would enjoy it.

I think a picture would be great. It never snows in South Texas, I can trace my truck to the U.S.Air Force as it still ratained a lot of the flight line yellow paint on it and the black U.S.Air Force and hood numbers on the left side of the hood. Also on the right front of the bumper was the winged propeller of the Air Force with a circle around it indicating that it was in Training Command.
Good Luck on running down information. It is exciting just knowing about your truck after it got to Norway. That is far better than most CCKW owners in the U.S. are able to determine.

Post by Minnie »

Sorry to inform you that i lost over 1000 pic a year and a half ago when my harddisk crashed. (Yes I know - Back up...)
Among these picures was the snowpictures of Minnie.
Last winter, and this one, so far, has been with an almost absence of snow... Wet snow / rain, often gone after a day or so..
I live in tje southern part of Norway, practicaly on the borderline zone of Having white winters and not. Result of this is randomly winters year to year....
So I'm sorry to inform that can't meet your request.

But I'll try to post some other pic to the forum admin this weekend
