New Exhaust Manifold

Hi,

Do you guys in the U.S have the same problem as us U.K owners with finding new or good usable exhaust manifolds ?.
I only as we have just bought a GMC Workshop from Norway with a cracked manifold and was hunting about for one, I when to my regular parts supplier (Rex Ward) and he told me " That he has 50 re-cast, new manifolds to sell next month", my name was down as number 34 on the list of people that wanted one. Do you guys have the same problem ?.

I no i do i Mick i need to upgrade on mine .The heat riser flap is burnt out on my truck .Do you think he will make some of intake & exhaust together I no i cant get mine apart without destroying it.

Yes, he supplies new inlet manifolds with the exhaust together and for about Ã‚Â£180 I think.

Yes we do have exhaust manifold problems in the states. They usually warp and start leaking at the head.

The M211/M135 manifold will fit just fine. Thay can be easier to find than original WW2 270 manifolds.

It is the M211/M135 GMC automatic deuce that has the manifold you can use,

NOT an M35

It bolts right on with no mods needed

The Yanks never dumped loads of M21 or M135 trucks or parts over in Europe like they did the CCKW, the manifold would be just as hard to find as a Jimmy one for me.

FYI
The Military assistance spares for the CCKW in the 50s-70s included the latest part number exhaust manifold which was the one that was current on the M-Series GMC, GM 2194274, as it superceeded all earlier CCKW Part numbers.
There was parts support for the CCKW in Europe at least until 1989. Drive line, Brake and Carburetors are the evidence I have witnessed. In Europe all CCKW Parts numbering systems were upgraded to the TARES System in the 50s, and finally the NSN numbering system. Problem is that not many have a way of accessing the NSNs, and the old SNLs most of us use do not show the late system.

i am lucky, in that I put a NOS one on my truck about 4 years ago. I got it from Joel and the main part is to follow his instructions when installing it.

As a side note:

The 1st CCKW ex manifolds had one of the flange bolts behind the flange. It was a bit difficult to install. Later CCKW ex manifolds had the casting for the flange rotated so one was towards the outside of the fender and none were hard to get to.

The M211/M135 manifolds have the flange turned again, not as bad as the 1st series as I recall, but they apparently forgot about the 2nd variation!
