Post by joel gopan »

Some had Wood Floors, some had Steel Floors. The last of them had the linked rear mudflaps. (they swing)

Were the wood floors replaced after the war when the trucks were reconditioned?

Doubt it when there was an excess of trucks. The CCKWs poured out of disposal yards constantly in 40s through 50s in new and used condition. Also there are repair and rebuild instructions for wood Floors in the Ordnance repair procedures and their subsequent changes. All shops had personnel trained in carpentry, and all Military Bases had a Carpenter Shop.

I have a CCKW that was reconditioned in 1952, and it has a composit body.

In the 50s the Army drew CCKWs and other WWII MVs from many National Guard Motorpools and shipped direct to friendly foriegn nations. The 1950s Nation Guard had clean and well maintained CCKWs and were in the process of converting to the new M-Series Vehicles. The trucks were a mixture of 1941 thru late CCKWs, and included all body types. Maine National Guard had a Closed Cab.CCKW Compressor Truck until 1959. Ft devens had CCW truck with 12 Yard Garbage Packer Body in 1960. I have photos somewhere of a unit preparing their CCKWs for shipment to Europe in 1952. There were variations that do not show in TM9-2800, of CCKWs classified as Items of Issue in Army Inventory as late as 1957.
