Oh how well I know. I got suckered into a nos CCKW shift knob. Turned out to be a 3/8" fine thread civillian pto knob. Almost threw it away but then calmed down and made an adapter so I could at least use it. Still po'd that I spent $12 on a $2 part that I didn't want. Live and learn!

Know your Vendor. I could write a book on what has been offered. But it is best to let the collector find out for himself. Those new to the hobby are most vulnerable, as they want to outfit their quick as possible,(some parts on my truck have taken me 20 years to locate) and do not realize that many bolt on parts are not interchangeable between types. I was watching a box of 100 toothed lock washers on eBay for $42.00, when I am able to buy the same for $4.00 each. I just gave several boxes of them free to my favorite Military Jeep Vendor as he appreciates quality itemsto sell to his clients.
While I am on Washers, have you all noted the difference of the toothed lockwashers that have been installed on CCKWs/Jeeps used by European Gov'ts, and those originally installed by the manufacturer?

Yes I have noticed the difference between the WW2 and post war washers,I always save lock washers if they are worth keeping, stripped and re zinc plated they look good as new.
