Maybe someone could help this gentleman out, he is looking for a good running 270 in the range of $150-$200. It is going in a 1950 GMC Pickup truck. Apparantly this is the going price on another GMC Forum.

If $150 is the going price I'll take two! you would do well to get a used cylinder head or set of pistons in good shape over here for that price.
Bob over at Vehicle of Victory had a NOS block(only),for I think $650.

Attitudes??
Listen, obviously in the world of this forum everything is laden in Gold and rare. I just asked a simple question and requested to see if anyone had any 270 engines.
The simple fact is, YES, you can easily find 270 and 302 engines for $150 - 200 bucks. There are other inline forums and Chevy GMC forums I have asked about what the going rate is and this is what I've heard in vast amounts,...the same thing. Almost every guy I've talked to has only paid up to $300 for an engine,....and in very good condition. That is untill I got here and got your lousey attitude! Joel, you are obvioulsy a wealth of knowledge and have been doing this for a while, however, your personality speaks volumes of its lack of grandure after reading your post here.
All I was trying to do was ask for a reasonable engine at reasonable prices. I'm sorry i'm not in the cash like you guys seem to be, maybe someday! Untill then, Joel There's no reason for it! It you want to say something to me, respond to my PM with a PM, not a public post to be smart! and yes, "apparently" you CAN get these engines for far less!
Thanks for completely turnig me off to this board.
Take care.

It always sits and rots untill you ask about it, then it's suddenly rare and valuable, and made of gold!

Sorry 'bout that, I was just trying to help. I was not aware there were price controls on rare parts.
The engine Jason needs will have a two bolt flange for the Exhaust Pipe, as it uses a 2" exhaust pipe and not the 2 1/2" as the CCKW uses. The Crankshaft should have a 6 Bolt pattern on crankshaft rear flange. The Rocker Arm Cover on that year has two louvered vents.
Good luck with your search.

My CCKW engine experience:
in the 80's bought one in NJ for $100 - no good. I took it in the shorts
in the 90's bought a just rebuilt 50's 270 for $500 (I think). Got it home, put it on the engine stand and started it. It made a screeching like I had never heard. It had good oil pressure but you could tell it was metal on metal. I let it run for about a minute and shut it down. To restart it, took 24v on the poor 6v starter it was so bound up (what the hell at that point). It again had good oil pressure and the temp was coming up to normal and it was still screeching. After a couple minutes, the screeching stopped. I let it run some more then shut it down. Started up just fine again with 12v. When I went to put the CCKW bellhousing on it, I removed the flywheel and a bolt, or part of one fell out from behind it. A bellhousing bolt had backed out behind the flywheel and as the engine turned, it tried to unscrew even more until it broke off. The engine is beautiful and I think the guy was trying to give it to me as he probably believed that it had been rebuilt wrong.
in the 90's the 302, the one presently in my cargo truck for $650 ( I think) but had to buy the whole truck (2 ton 1956 civy/mil tanker). I took it out in the junk yard and left a carcas and made most of the $$ back on the doors, windshield, etc that I took off there. The tires are on Annie.
in the 90's the 302 in 56 civy/mil tanker (twin to above) truck for $350
( I think) at public state auction
in the 90's the 302 in civy engine with a rap for $25. No holes in it. Obviously needs a crank/work but for $25 worth it
in the 90's the 302 in 56 civy tractor with different block. 302 with built on air compressor for brakes. Block is physically different for compressor oil drain $150 runs great. Will go into Kompressor CCKW this year.
in the 00's the 302 in 56 civy/mil stake truck (yet to be picked up) for $100

And if you want your engine to be reconditioned to OEM specs, noise free, leak free, no buzzing manifolds, leaking or questionable oil/fuel/water lines and 100% zero time bolt on OEM accessories to ensure tinker free, turn key operation, $1200.00-$1800.00 is not unreasonable. Maybe more if you have to have an expert MV Restoration Facility do it for you.

If one checks around with known dealers in 40s-50s 270 GMC engine parts, Patricks, Memphis, Frank Von R, White Owl, Dealers in Hemmings, etc., one will get fast a dose of reality. The next dose will be at the machine shops for the precision work. I have a few NOS Crated Crankshafts, Camshafts, Rods, Pistons and enough components to build a new shortblock, and just the parts alone to do one block set me back over a Grand.
