There are 3 Chevy transfer cases:

Y model w/o the parking brake

Y model-like with a driveshaft flange on the back for the auger and telco

Late model one with the parking brake on the back

They all use the same case and most parts inside, but some are different.

I assume you want the most common one which is the last one?

As a matter of fact a wrecker crane was mounted some years ago on this truck and the winch was powered by the transfercase. so the upper axle where normaly the brake drum is mounted has a yoke for pto use.
The drum was moved in line with the rear drive shaft. So I need the most common case indeed.

Thanks for the info!!! I will post some pics later on!

If the upper rear shaft is live when the xfer is in neutral, you have the telco xfer which I suspect. Otherwise you would only have PTO power when the truck was moving.

If you don't need the PTO, install the later parking brake transfer. If you need the PTO, you need to save the top shaft (min) and the sliding gear on it I think for the new xfer you are looking for.

That is the Telco transfer modified to have a parking brake on it. If you look at the lower picture, you can see the bracket on the RH side that was cut with a torch.

Unless that did something unusual with the gas tank, you should be able to use the standard later war xfer with the parking brake on the upper shaft if you are not using that output.

The telco trucks had the civy style rear axle with the parking brake operating on the rear axle brake drums via cables.

Hi Jeroen,

I'm not sure if this helps but I have a transfer case from a 1942 Canadian Chevrolet C60 CMP. it does have the parking brake attached. I really don't know if this is the same as the one fitted to the US 1.5 ton Chevy.
