Rear door hinge question

Post by Ledog »

Hi all!

I would like to know how is supposed to be the hinge of the rear door of steel bed. Here is mine. As you can see, there is a bar that cross the entire width of the truck. I have seen some pictures of rear doors with two bars that passes across the left and right hinges only (no bar in the middle, above the tools box).

Which one is the original hinge?

Tailgate & Hinge Rod

Post by Karoshi »

Hi AAA, the hinge for the rear Tailgate is called the Hinge Rod, and the TM 9-801 / 230 shows a picture of the hinge rod as one length, just like yours.

best regards

Thanks Karoshi!

It seems that the other option I described above did also exist at some point. I asked some friends and one of them, who own three CCKW's, said all his trucks have the two rods system on them. Maybe ex french army.

Dr Deuce, mine has already been removed and reweled, but very badly. My tailgate has to be changed or repaired too. There was a square opening in the middle. Somebody tried to close it by welding some sheetmetal. But he did a very bad job and there is still a slit in the middle. The weldings have not been cleaned and are very visible (you can see it on the pictures). I'll ask a professionnal welder if he can do something. I'll also ask him to change my hinge rod.
