Twin petrol fillers

Post by Chappers »

On my new 352 I've noticed fuel filler caps/spouts on both sides of the vehicle the one on the drivers side looks as if it was cut out of the petrol tank cover by stitch drilling. The Tank its self appears to have been manufactured with 2 fillers, Was this common as most of the pictures I've seen only show 1filler spout ??

Original tanks fitted to 352s had two fillers.

Very early 1942 352's had a single small neck filler on the passenger side only. The drivers side position mounted the pioneer rack. The shape of the small neck filler made it hard to refuel from a can.

Later 352's had a twin filler of larger size and different shape, makeing re-fueling from cans easier, and quicker. The pioneer rack being moved to the drivers bonnet side. This was logistically more attractive as the vehicle could queue left or right hand and still present a filler.

By going on what you have said it's probable that a second filler hole was cut in the tank retaining cover and a dual fuel filler tank installed. As I've said in my previous post the hole has been cut by a drill bit.
Thanks for the info

You have probably got a French tank fitted, when they replaced the tanks during rebuilds a single filler was one of the differences. Our truck has been rebuilt in this way with just one filler on the right.
