Vintage Wiring of Main CCKW harness

Post by pfarber »

Anyone use the VWOM harness on their CCKW?

Any reviews?

Anyone have an old harness they don't want/need?

I installed one in a Chev for a guy a number of years ago. It was a nice unit from VWOM. I make my own because of the way I wire things. I know they can accomodate you, but I do it myself.

I use modern PVC wire and for a few different places, headlight dimmer switch and the line to the rear, I use SJ cord (prof grade 14/3 cordage) to make it easier. I wrap all the cables with the best tape I can find.

The only connectors that are a problem are the real lights. Those are spliced in. I also put a connector on the harness going to the cargo body so I can take it off or move it back easily by just unplugging it.

I also solder all the crimped eyelet terminals for long life

Cheers for the info, I think I'll go for the PVC cable aswell but I'll install it in Heat shrink covering and just tape the areas which have to tee off. You can get self amalgamating tape which I've used in the past , it's waterproof and lasts.
How did you get on about indicators?? My other GMC use's the side lights as indicators, if the side lights are on in the evening they flash the same. I'm also thinking of putting the indicator switch on the steering column, this site sell them under switches http://www.s-v-c.co.uk/.
