gearbox seal

Post by jakub »

I am considering replaceing gearbox seal since I'd like to have replacement before starting the job and don't believe in NOS, I'd like to get new one. And getting imperial measurment seals in otherwise metric country is not easy. Anyone has spare to check measurment ??? Please.

Gearbox seal replacement - done

Seal original size - dont't really know, one which I've taken out was 74x54x11, the flange dimension suggest that original was 2 7/8x2 1/8 x 7/16 or 2 7/8x2 1/8 x 3/8, I've fitted the later, in order to unscrew the flange one needs chisel and hammer or 1 3/4 or 44 socket, I've used 44mm socket but becasuse there is very limited room, the socked needs to be machined to fit max 58mm outside diameter. Finding shop stocking 44mm socket wasn't easy.

All in all makes you think about compatibility of parts, the transfer box flanges are 1 1/2 nuts and doinng same job gearbox flange nut is 1 3/4. I know they came from different manufacturer, gearbox is from Clark while transfer box is own GM model (for Banjo) but they could have exchange information and make mechanic life easier.

Yes but then it wouldn't be a "mechanic's life "

Glad you succeeded
